Comic Book Story Telling Intro: Part 1 of 2

  • C.C. Lowell Art Supply 258 Park Avenue Worcester, MA 01609

$89.00 : Part 1 & 2 of Comic Story Telling Intro. Tuesday, 4:30-6pm. April 5th (Part 1) and April 12th (Part 2)

Strong storytelling is the most important and commonly overlooked ingredient in making a successful comic strip or full-length graphic novel. When it comes to deciding how to begin planning a page, or figuring what combination of words and images should go where, aspiring comic artists find themselves hashing things out on their own, often "making it up as they go." While this trial and error method can be fun for a time, it also has the potential for some frustrating results. In this workshop, students will be introduced to storytelling techniques as they apply to the comics medium. With these helpful exercises, guidance, and a little practice, students will achieve a better understanding of how to give their comics and the stories they tell the most impact.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Learn the basics with artist Michael McMenemy. Enter the world of sequential art and develop your own graphic novel with memorable characters and unique settings. Michael McMenemy is a graduate of Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY, where he studied Illustration, and took a profound interest in sequential art and storytelling. He endeavors to improve as a graphic storyteller by exploring new approaches to the craft and developing innovations within the comics medium. See examples of his work in the Worcester-centric children’s book, Siegfried, the graphic novel Dirt: Green Tornado Water, and ongoing comics series Something Creepy and Pale Dragon. In each workshop, Michael will guide students through each step of the process of creating a comic book, from concept to publication. Students are encouraged to attend all courses, but can also choose a single course that they would enjoy or benefit the most from.
